This policy explains what personal data 8x8verse.com (8x8verse.com) collects, why, and the choices you have. The site is operated by Chahir Jbali ("we", "us"). Questions: 8x8verse@gmail.com.
Summary
- You can read and watch everything here without giving us any personal data.
- If you write to us through the contact form, we receive your name, email address and message by email, only to answer you.
- This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies of its own. Videos and fonts come from Google (YouTube, Google Fonts), described below.
- We never sell your data.
1. Data we collect
Messages you send us
The contact form asks for your name, email address, a subject and your message. They are sent to our inbox by email so we can reply. The website itself does not keep a copy of your message.
Technical data
Like every website, our hosting provider's servers receive technical data when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you request and the time of the request. This is used to deliver the site and keep it secure (for example, to block abuse), and is kept only for a limited time according to the host's log retention.
Cookies
The site does not use cookies to track you. WordPress sets functional cookies only if you log in to the site's administration area. Third-party content described below may set its own cookies when you use it.
2. Third-party content
- YouTube videos. Videos are embedded in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com): YouTube does not store cookies on your device until you play a video. When you play one, Google may collect data under the Google Privacy Policy.
- Google Fonts. To display our typefaces, your browser downloads fonts from Google's servers, which receive your IP address. See the Google Privacy Policy.
- Links to other sites. Links to YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, Lichess and others are plain links. Once you follow one, that site's own privacy policy applies.
3. Our publishing tools and the YouTube API Services
We produce our chess videos with our own internal software ("8x8verse Publisher"). It is used only by us, to publish our own videos to our own website and social media accounts. It is not offered to visitors and it never accesses visitors' data.
To upload videos to our YouTube channel, the publisher uses the YouTube API Services. With the permission we granted from our own Google account, it reads our channel's basic information (name and ID) and uploads and updates videos on our channel. The access tokens are stored encrypted on our server, are used for nothing else, and are never shared or sold.
- By using our YouTube content you are also bound by the YouTube Terms of Service.
- Google's handling of data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
- Access granted to an application can be revoked at any time from the Google security settings page.
- Our use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
4. Why we use your data
- To answer your messages, because you asked us to (in the EU/UK: steps at your request and our legitimate interest in replying).
- To run and protect the site, such as preventing spam and abuse (legitimate interest).
5. How long we keep it
We keep your messages only as long as needed to handle your request and any follow-up, then delete them. Server logs are kept for the limited period set by our host.
6. Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent personal data. It is processed only by the service providers needed to run the site, such as our web host and email provider, and only on our behalf. We disclose data to authorities only when the law requires it.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU/UK or the CCPA in California), you can ask us to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, and object to or restrict its use. Email 8x8verse@gmail.com and we will answer within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
8. Children
Chess is for everyone, and our videos are suitable for young players. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children under 16 through the contact form. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Security
The site is served over HTTPS, our publishing credentials are stored encrypted, and access to our systems is limited to us. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data.
10. Changes
We will update this page if our practices change, and change the date at the top. Significant changes will be highlighted on this page.
